Islamic holy day Eid Al Adha is approaching, rising concerns among Kashmiris about QURBANI the sacrificing of animals, a common Islamic practice.

In occupied Kashmir, people staged forceful demonstrations to register their protest against the anti-Muslim verdict of the High Court banning sale of beef and cow slaughter in the territory.

Indian forces’ personnel used brute force to quell protests at several places resulting in the injuring of scores of protesters including senior Hurriyet leader, Shabbir Ahmed Shah. Indian police arrested Yasmeen Raja, Muhammad Ahsan Untoo, Muhammad Ashraf Laya and others during the demonstrations.

Despite heavy deployment of Indian troops and police personnel, people took to the streets in Srinagar, Badgam, Bandipore, Pulwama, Sopore, Islamabad, Kulgam, Kupwara and other areas. Occupied Jammu and Kashmir is a disputed region which is under Indian military control. More than 90% of the of the population is Muslim. Since 1947, when Indian and Pakistan became independent countries, Occupied Jammu and Kashmir is a major dispute between two nations and most serious regional issue.

The veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar said that Kashmir is a Muslim majority territory and the court had not considered the ramification of the order.

“The decision is politically motivated and seems to have been issued with an aim to provoke communal tension in the territory and to project a wrong image of freedom struggle of the subjugated Kashmiri people,” he said.

People including Hurriyet leaders, Zafar Akbar Butt and Aasiya Andrabi, slaughtered bovine in many areas in protest against the court ruling.

The puppet authorities had detained Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Maulana Abbas Ansari, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, Zafar Akbar Butt, Engineer Hilal Ahmad War, Mukhtar Ahmed Waza and Qazi Yasir Ahmad in their houses and police stations to prevent them from leading the protests.
