(Iowa-NewsHalal, Jumada Al-Akhir 3, 1437, March 12, 2016) A judge in Iowa state of the USA has sentenced two brothers who own companies that distribute and certify halal food products after they pleaded guilty to federal charges.

According to several US media reports, a U.S. District Court Chief Judge Linda Reade sentenced Midamar Corp. President Jalel Aossey to one year and one day in prison after he pleaded guilty for conspiring to commit fraud. He admitted that labels on meat products and documents exported to Malaysia and Indonesia were falsified. He must resign from the Cedar-Rapids, Iowa-based company.

His brother, Yahya Aossey, received three years of probation after he pleaded guilty to selling misbranded meat products. He may continue as the head of Midamar.

Their father, Midamar founder Bill Aossey, was sentenced in February to two years in prison after being convicted of similar charges.

According to the information on the company web-site, Midamar Corporation established in 1974 is a leading US based Halal Food Brand and Global Supply Chain Management Company serving the Middle East, South East Asia and the Far East.

Consumers domestically and abroad turn to the name brand of Midamar in the search for consistency and quality of product, the company statement says.

Last year, a former manager of Midamar has been sentenced to three years of probation and fined $20,000 for conspiring to mislabel beef for sale abroad.

Midamar Corp. founder William Aossey Jr. was also found guilty in July of 15 of 19 federal charges involving the sale of misbranded halal beef products and falsifying expert documents. He awaits sentencing.
